Program Overview

This experiential learning program has been designed by Paragon One in collaboration with Credera to offer talented students an opportunity to develop and showcase their creative problem solving and critical thinking skills by working on real work projects.

This program will be conducted under the supervision of the DE&I team. Credera views DE&I through the lens of its core values of Integrity, Tenacity, Humility, Excellence and People First; with the understanding that honoring differences while maintaining shared values is how extraordinary culture will be unlocked. Credera believes that creating an inclusive environment, where each Crederians’ differences are celebrated, results in an engaged, innovative, and empowered team - one that better represents and serves clients and surrounding communities.

As Credera is a global boutique that has geographic coverage in markets around the world, the Credera DE&I team team solves for the following—how Credera can develop a leading global DE&I Strategy that is reflective of their core values (humility, excellence, integrity, tenacity, people first).

Through this externship, students will have the opportunity to work on real organizational challenges by providing actionable insights and proposing thoughtful strategic solutions. Externs will assist in creating Credera’s Cultural Competency & Global Best Practices Guide by researching the customs, laws, beliefs, and workplace practices of a given region.

Externs Will

The Credera DE&I team needs help creating a Cultural Competency & Global Best Practices Guides to help develop cultural knowledge and facilitate these necessary skills across team members and leadership. A well-rounded guide will provide education on local cultures and help understand laws/customs/beliefs etc. to help team members build trust and effective working intercultural relationships

Students will build a library of guides for each country where Credera operates to understand how to build strong working relationships with team members in these countries. The students will be assigned 1-2 countries and asked to carry out research, collecting data and researching workplace relevant practices as follows:

  • DE&I and Local work-related policies and/or trainings
  • Laws, local customs, beliefs, holidays and traditions
  • Description of the general population, demographics, economic and political landscape
  • Common culture interactions, communication style and approach to conflict resolution
  • Preferred method to giving and receiving feedback
  • Common working style or approach to work, workforce issues
  • Identify populations considered to be underrepresented or marginalized
  • Unique considerations (or potential challenges) for US based companies operating in said country
  • Include information that may be relevant and application (ex. If political / economic scope is relevant)
  • Take into consideration the differences within the country (city/culture specific)

This project will help Credera build its DE&I Global strategy.

  • Get familiarized with the vision, mission, and work of Credera and the DE&I team.
  • Learn about cultural competency by reading reports, whitepapers, and other available online resources
  • Conduct research of various aspects of cultural competence of an assigned country or region, including, but not limited to, demographic, cultural, and social landscape, meeting and workplace etiquette, customs, laws, policies, etc.
  • Learn to collect, organize, and analyze visualize data
  • Create and deliver a compelling presentation showcasing insights from research that tie back to Credera’s DEI and business goals
  • Contribute to the creation of Cultural Competency & Global Best Practices Guides

Meet Past Externs

Meet Past Students

"My externship with HP was a great example of how a single experience can change the course of a career. After my externship, I started getting interviews, and I started seeing my resume downloaded by recruiters. People called and said they wanted to learn more about the HP Tech Ventures Externship. It was something they’d never seen before, and they wanted to know more. Leveraging this experience has helped me in more ways than I can count, and now I am a summer analyst at an investment bank!"

Dawit Teshome
now interns @Windsor capital, llc

"I found myself as a recent graduate with no idea what I wanted to do with my life. Paragon One offered an exciting opportunity to explore and work with real-world companies alongside a cohort of like-minded individuals. The most significant benefit as an extern is the flexibility for career discovery. As someone who had almost no industry exposure, I had the chance to build my understanding of the marketing industry by researching ad-tech solutions and presenting my findings to the Facebook team."

Valerie Fong
NOW WORKS @Empire lakes productions

“I really want to emphasize that Paragon One offers many opportunities not just in social media and marketing but in finance, accounting, more. These unique and tailored experiences are a great way to not only develop in areas of your own interests but to also expand your knowledge in general. And they're easily accessible. Really anyone can do it. I did it. So I want to emphasize that the possibilities are there and to just go for them.”

NOW INTERNS @EXTREME NETWORKS

“I believe business and tech together have a transformative power to do good with high impact. That’s why I was so excited to get into the Paragon One Facebook Remote Externship program. It was a structured, intentional experience, and I got to enhance skills like market research, communicating to a strategic audience, and putting together insights in an easily digestible way.”

Jose Medina
NOW WORKS @DELOITTE

“I feel like a lot of people say diversity matters, but they don’t show it. This opportunity definitely showed it. I met people from all over the world with different backgrounds, who had similar interests to me. I don't think I would have ever had the chance to do a project with a company like Facebook outside of this. With this experience being through Paragon One and their connection to my university, it felt so much more accessible to me and not like a far off unattainable goal.”

McKenzie Templeton
NOW WORKS @Johnson city chamber of commerce

“There was mentorship and structure, but the people overseeing us didn’t force their ideas on us. I really liked the frank discussions at the weekly meetings and how the Facebook staff we interacted with showed genuine interest in our futures.”

FAQs
Got questions?
We've got answers.
Is the externship with Paragon One or the Host Company?

Paragon One co-creates externship experiences with each hosting company – the outcomes, the training, the meeting agendas – it’s carefully crafted by both companies. The Paragon One team will manage your Weekly Meetings, Company Meetings, and additional support and feedback. You will meet with your host company, receive feedback from them, present your findings to them, and receive other opportunities to connect with them through out the program.

How long/how much time does the externship take?

All externships take 10-15 hours each week to be successful in the program. This encompasses the time spent learning and completing training, researching, and attending meetings. All externships are 6-8 weeks long. Be sure to check each program for its duration.

How are students able to network with representatives from Host Companies?

Like in professional roles, all your interactions with a company are networking. Networking is about building relationships and trust. Each Company Meeting is an opportunity to impress them and increase their perception of you as an extern. After you complete the program, we compile all the information about you and your work and share it with Host Companies so they can review students and reach out, respectively. Top students get additional opportunities to present their work and have follow-up discussions with company leads.

Can I use the externship for Class Credit?

Yes, you can. Remember that credit-bearing policies vary from institution to institution, so while we can support you to receive credit, you will want to check with your advisor or dean for approval first.
