Program Overview

This experiential learning program has been designed by Paragon One in collaboration with Teach For America to offer talented students an opportunity to develop and showcase their creative problem solving and critical thinking skills by working on real work projects. This externship will be conducted under the supervision of the Cross-Team Analytics and Strategy (XT) Team which is the team that owns data, reporting, analysis, and insights work for a portion of the national teams at Teach For America (Admissions, Recruitment, Marketing, Communications, & Public Partnerships) as well as leveraging those skills for org-wide projects. The team is responsible for leveraging TFA’s work to equip partner teams with the insights, data, reporting, and technology tools they need to achieve their goals. The team is a central shared services team, sitting under Teach For America’s Learning function.  They are comprised of team members with expertise in areas like statistical analysis, technical consulting, analysis, data, and reporting who form different agile project teams around key questions their partners or the organization at large need to tackle.  In that way, the team acts as internal consultants for the different partners. During the program, students will conduct a deep dive into the GenZ market to identify a marketing strategy that aims to recruit, engage, and support GenZ corp members.


Externs Will

Through this externship, you will have the opportunity to work on real organizational challenges faced by nonprofit organizations by providing actionable insights and proposing thoughtful strategic solutions. This program will focus on Teach For America, a nonprofit dedicated to developing and mobilizing America’s young leaders toward the movement for educational equity and excellence. Externs will conduct primary and secondary research into how the new generation of young people perceives teaching and educational equity as a social issue. During this externship you will:

  • Familiarize yourself with the vision, mission, and work of TFA, as well as learn about broader GenZ trends with respect to careers and workplaces
  • Consult publicly available reports, articles, whitepapers, and academic research and/or conduct primary research of your own to determine answers to understand GenZ’s needs
  • Document your research and findings and use them to create target profiles
  • Create an understanding of how GenZ perceives teaching and educational equity
  • Create a concise presentation that highlights insights from  your research and recommends a messaging strategy for TFA to recruit, engage, and support current and existing corp members belonging to the GenZ generation

  • We are seeking ambitious undergraduate and graduate students with a strong interest in talent engagement, communication strategy, and educational equity. This program is perfect for students who are interested in learning about how to use data to identify viable marketing strategies at a national education company.

Application Process

After sending in your application, we'll reach out if we think you're a good fit. You'll send in a "Get to Know You" video and then participate in a live interview.

Week 1: Onboarding

During the first week of the program, you'll be setting goals for what you want to achieve in the upcoming weeks and familiarizing yourself with the industry, our platform, and your cohort.

Weeks 2-5: Research & Analysis

During the regular programming of the Externship, you will receive training and complete projects through our student platform. These exciting weeks are filled with weekly meetings, company meetings, student-led workshops, and virtual events like speaker series and networking sessions.

Present to Host Company

Top students will be selected to present their projects and findings to company leads and other senior leadership.

Is the externship with Paragon One or the Host Company?

Paragon One co-creates externship experiences with each hosting company – the outcomes, the training, the meeting agendas – it’s carefully crafted by both companies. The Paragon One team will manage your Weekly Meetings, Company Meetings, and additional support and feedback. You will meet with your host company, receive feedback from them, present your findings to them, and receive other opportunities to connect with them through out the program.

How long/how much time does the externship take?

All externships take 10-15 hours each week to be successful in the program. This encompasses the time spent learning and completing training, researching, and attending meetings. All externships are 6-8 weeks long. Be sure to check each program for its duration.

How are students able to network with representatives from Host Companies?

Like in professional roles, all your interactions with a company are networking. Networking is about building relationships and trust. Each Company Meeting is an opportunity to impress them and increase their perception of you as an extern. After you complete the program, we compile all the information about you and your work and share it with Host Companies so they can review students and reach out, respectively. Top students get additional opportunities to present their work and have follow-up discussions with company leads.

Can I use the externship for Class Credit?

Yes, you can. Remember that credit-bearing policies vary from institution to institution, so while we can support you to receive credit, you will want to check with your advisor or dean for approval first.
