Paragon One Paragon One is a team out of MIT (and Y-Combinator) that facilitates Externships, a new form of work-based learning experiences for diverse Gen Z students, that expands Fortune 1000 commitments to social impact.

We’re profiling Social Impact leaders to gather their insights into how CSR is transforming.

Britney Peart is a DEI Coordinator at Intuit. With a background in health equity and ethnic studies, her studies brought her to the world of DEI in tech. She aspires to address systems of inequity through evidence based programming and strategy creation.

Could you tell me your current role, title, and organization? Where have you worked previously facilitating social impact?

I currently work as a DEI Coordinator, Racial Equity on the DEI team at Intuit. Before accepting my full-time role, I served as the company’s first ever DEI intern in 2021. My internship at Intuit was my first formal experience learning about diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in a corporate setting. This opportunity also exposed me to employee resource groups, employee engagement, and the power of storytelling to promote organizational change. In my current role, I work to increase representation and create an inclusive environment for Intuit employees through learning and development and targeted programming.

What is the most personally-gratifying aspect of working within Social Impact?  What motivates you to remain in the social impact field?

The most gratifying aspect of working within Social Impact is being a part of new initiatives that allow me to create innovative employee engagement experiences. I find joy in working on projects rooted in advancing underrepresented groups through learning and mentorship. What motivates me to remain in the social impact field is its progressive nature. Working in DEI allows me to advocate while also building skills in project management, design thinking, and interpersonal communication.

I am a first generation American and a proud daughter of working-class Jamaican immigrants. As I navigate predominantly white spaces, I am intentional about networking and advancing my skill sets. As I continue to advance in my career, I am passionate about eliminating barriers for historically marginalized communities and providing them with a fair chance at success.

What is your favorite project that you have or are currently working on?

One of my favorite projects that I have worked on is developing DEI Learning & Development Sessions for employees. Facilitating opportunities for employees to learn about topics that have been overlooked is essential to racial equity work. This project helps create a shared understanding through ongoing conversations about the history of inequities. Strategic learning and development opportunities normalizes the discussion of DEI topics which creates a more inclusive workplace. The DEI Learning & Development Sessions are formal experiences led by third party experts and thought leaders in varying DEI related topics. To select session topics I distributed a survey to our DEI team which evaluated their competencies and confidence in applying specific DEI topics to their programming. From there, I conducted 1:1 interviews to gather qualitative data to support my findings. Some of the session topics cover intersectionality, strategies for driving health equity in the workplace, and cultural competence and humility.

What would you tell others interested in pursuing a career in CSR or social impact?

There isn’t one specific way to pursue a career in social impact. Start with understanding what excites you about social impact and from there do research and begin networking with professionals in the industry. Also, I suggest utilizing Linkedin as a starting point to follow leaders in the industry. This will help you to remain aware about different programs and initiatives organizations are implementing for underrepresented employees and communities.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
